50 – Beaconsfield, a polluted city for 6,000 citizens

Beaconsfield is a polluted city. This is reality.

This must be remedied to ensure a better quality of life for 6,200 citizens living in its polluted corridor along the 20.

Through its actions, the city of Beaconsfield prioritizes actions that give the appearance of environmental protection, but at low cost.

Rather, the ICBP proposes to the city to correct a glaring injustice, to stop peddling false arguments and to change its immoral position for a municipal administration, without a referendum.

51 A better quality of life ???

In a hiring document published recently, the city of Beaconsfield defines its mission as follows:

“Create an inclusive community offering a high-quality living environment that respects natural and built environments, all thanks to responsible and innovative management. “
City of Beaconsfield, 2020

It’s a nice theoretical definition, but this mission does not stand the test of reality.

The main source of noise and greenhouse gases (GHG) in Beaconsfield (and by far) is the polluted corridor of Highway 20 and trains. There is no industry or trade as polluting in town.

In its “Sustainable Development Plan”, the city of Beaconsfield further states that it “is committed to protecting the environment, improving the quality of the living environment, developing the local economy and reducing the production of GHG ”. Another beautiful assertion not corroborated by the facts.

We’ve already shown how Beaconsfield gives the APPEARANCE of protecting the environment, but without paying big money.

It is ridiculous to think that writing a plan, banning plastic bags or leaf blowers for 4 months will improve our quality of life. These are cosmetic measures, free, but ineffective in reducing GHGs in Beaconsfield.

It is now time to protect the citizens of the areas where toxic pollution originates. It is time for results and accountability in the fight against pollution affecting nearly a third of the city’s population.

The highway and train polluted corridor must be mitigated NOW. It is the biggest source of greenhouse gases (GHG) and noise in Beaconsfield.
